Big Seeding BugMasterlink :: 8/29/2010 - 20:34 GMT
I can*`*t believe I*`*m just finding this.
There was a rather large bug with the manual seeding, where freewins were ALWAYS at the bottom, regardless of where you tried to put the... sorry about that! Fixed
Of course, I just wanted an excuse to make a post, as if anyone were to look at the home page, it would seem that the staff behind BinaryBeast were asleep, while we*`*ve been quite active working on a some exciting new features, stay tuned!
BinaryBeast 3.5Masterlink :: 2/23/2010 - 03:49 GMT
We*`*ve just released a rather large update, bringing BinaryBeast up to version 3.5.
Not much has changed on the front end, but the massive server-side rewrites have vastly improved effeciency, and has paved the way to an easy transition into our HTML rebuild. The new flash file was about 35kb smaller too =) (pfft flash lol)
One major change was in the login system. We now use Email as the login name, as opposed to some arbitrary Username that you are almost certain to forget. However, this also means that a few people will likely have trouble getting into their accounts - if this happens to you, please contact us (contact@binarybeast.com) and we will help you asap
Some new features in BinaryBeast 3.5:
Tournies List
- The private list (My Tournies) now includes a list of tournaments you*`*ve created (as before), as well as a list of tournaments you have joined
- Both the Public and Private tournies list now include new search options at the top
Team Management
- Team manage was almost non-existant in BB 3.0, but as of 3.5, they can set leaders, create admin passwords for team members to manage it, and set a password requirement for others to join
- Teams can be manually created by a tour admin during creation, or anytime before it starts
Tournament Management
- Tournaments are much easier to manage now, with a simplified tournament wizard
- You may now set an administrator password to let other BinaryBeast users manage your tournaments
- I*`*ve done away with the Player vs Team system, it was rather stupid and created way too much extra work to keep everything compatible All members of tournaments are teams, but 1v1 is the default mode, with a single player joining each team.
Tournament Creation
- The tournament wizard has been completely reconstructed
- Instead of relying on administrators to take the time to type in a date with a uniform format, there is now a calendar
- Admins may now specify a list of teams to automatically insert into the touranment when creating it
- With the list of inserted teams, you can also automatically generate the brackets instead of having to go through the tournament options after you have created it
- I*`*m sure you guys will all miss hunting for the your tournament*`*s game in a stupidly long chaotic drop-down menu, which has been replaced by a search field
Updates, Looking aheadMasterlink :: 2/8/2010 - 23:35 GMT
We have been reconstructing the out-dated back end for a while now. The rebuild will allow for some new exciting features, and will be released in approximately 2 weeks from now.
This rebuild was necessary because this website was not designed for large scale use. It*`*s suprising it has worked this well so far. It started out as a small personal learning project that people seemed to like and started using.... I had no idea what I was doing when I started it (I didn*`*t even know what SQL stood for, I was a to*`*al newb). A few years later, we have learned quite a bit... And now that people are using it, we feel the back end should be better equipped.
Along with this update, for anyone interested, I*`*ll include documentation to our new API. We had an API before, but it was rather ridiculous and impossible to use.
Down the road (at least a few months from now) we*`*ll be slowly migrating away from flash, and building a proper website. The current rebuild we*`*re working on now is what will make this transition easy. Flash is NOT meant to be used for building full websites. It*`*s too bloated, choppy, inefficient, and not standardaized. The remote embedded MicroVew will of course remain flash; That*`*s not a big deal though, it*`*s trying to build full scale website in flash that*`*s simply not practical.

Happy new year!!Infused.Nemesis :: 1/1/2010 - 05:24 GMT
Happy new year gamers! :D
Another year has passed and it*`*s been our best by far, in 1 year we have had:
almost 1500 new players register on binarybeast
almost 350 new tournaments which have been completed or are still running
over 1000 new tournaments created for testing and finding bugs (created by outside testers, not us)
and we*`*ve gone over 300,000 hits in a single week... (over 100,000 in a single day)
We*`*ve worked hard behind the scenes in 2009 to give more options and functionality to the site and this new year will be even better. With version 3.5 only a few months away (which means a huge update to how everything works), and 4.0 due for release in the 2nd half of the year with a totally new interface, we are very excited to welcome the new year.
We have big things planned and I hope you will continue to show us your support by using our website and giving us feedback.
I say it every time but yet again I*`*d like to thank Masterlink and Nuada for their work on the website. And welcome our new Admin: "Ska".
Thanks for backing us and from the entire BinaryBeast crew: Have a great new year and be sure to come back after the hangover leaves you. :)

Oops!Masterlink :: 10/31/2009 - 23:54 GMT
hmmm I was wondering why I had seen so many people make cup tournaments and never start them lol
It would be good practice for me to test major changes wouldn*`*t it? = (
I broke the start tournament window for cup style touraments when adding manual seeding to elimination brackets... oops!
sorry about that
